“Lens Whacking” Test Shoot

I’m constantly on the look out for new and interesting ways to use my camera to capture creative shots. This week I discovered a technique called “Lens Whacking” or “Free Lensing.” This is the process of removing the lens from the camera so that ambient light can leak in behind the lens onto the sensor. When done right, it creates a wonderful dreamy soft focus effect in-camera.

I made a little test video. Enjoy!
