All of the sayings are true. Babies do grow too quickly. The days are long, but the years are short. And we’re trying to soak up every moment we can. Avery is about to turn a year old, and we just don’t know where the time went. Quite frankly, it does make us very nostalgic and, crazily enough, makes us wish we could turn back the clock, but a good friend of mine put it in perspective for me recently.
She was sharing how she told her husband that she was sad at how fast her own girls were growing, but he replied back to her, “But we were there for it all. We lived it with them.” And that has stuck with me for the past several months. Every time I start to pine for her to slow down, I remember that Chris and I have been with Avery through all that she has learned and done, and I’m grateful. It’s like the Dr. Seuss quote says, “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” I’m grateful that she is healthy and happy and starting to take on the world. And let me tell you. This little girl has her dad’s adventurous spirt and most certainly plans to take on the world.
