What’s more fun than the beach? Going to the beach with friends! This year for July 4th our family headed to Harbor Island, SC with our friends Catlin, Aaron, and their two-year-old, Quinn.
Anyone who has traveled with a two-year-old knows long travel hours mean many snacks, much stuffed animals, and tons of prayer because 4 hours in a car is a LONG time for anyone. Avery did pretty good on the way down, and we only had to resort to singing the ABCs on repeat for about 30 minutes to avoid a meltdown so we considered that a win.
As we were planning the vacation, the four of us decided it would be a good idea head out early one morning and take a few photos of each family and the two girls. Chris and I very rarely have a chance to take photos of our family together in a candid setting so we were really looking forward to it.
We really enjoyed the laid back nature of that morning. Despite the early wake-up and the rush to get to the beach in time for good light (check out the brutally honest photo below), we mostly spent time letting the girls run around and play with sand. We snapped photos of whatever was really happening as two-year-olds very rarely follow any type of script, and I think these type photos are some of my favorites– unscripted, tons of movement involved, and real life as it happens. There’s beauty in these wild moments with our toddlers because one day I’m pretty sure we’ll miss it.
